Dark Side of the Moon: Nissan Unveils Trio of Midnight Edition Trucks

Nissan’s trio of pickup trucks will become the latest models to wear the brand’s Midnight Edition treatment. The company made the announcement at the same time that today’s solar eclipse reached totality over its U.S. headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. The mid-size Nissan Frontierthe full-size Titan, and the not-quite-heavy-duty Titan XD Midnight Editions are as black as shadows on the dark side of the moon.
All will be 2018 models. The Nissan Frontier Midnight Edition package is limited to the four-door Frontier SV crew-cab model, which comes standard with the company’s 261-hp 4.0-liter V-6 engine. Dark-trimmed features that separate it from the plain-Jane SV include body-color bumper covers and blacked-out grille, side steps, door handles, rearview-mirror caps, and 18-inch wheels. While the Midnight Edition kit can be added to either rear- or four-wheel-drive Frontier SV crew cab models, the package cannot be paired with the truck’s available six-speed manual transmission.

Similarly, the Titan and Titan XD Midnight Editions both sport body-color bumper covers that complement these trucks’ black grille, door handles, side steps, rearview mirror caps, and 20-inch wheels. Additionally, the Titan and Titan XD include black headlight and fog-light surrounds as well as charcoal interior trim. Finally, the Titan XD wears black paint on its model-specific fender vents.
The Midnight Edition package is available on four-door crew-cab Titan and Titan XD models in either SV or SL trim. For better or worse, the Titan XD Midnight Edition will require buyers to add the torquey turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8 diesel engine.

It appears Nissan’s marketers were too busy staring at the sky to get around to releasing pricing information for these 2018-model-year trucks, but on 2017 models, opting for the diesel XD adds $4800 to the bill on the SV crew cab and $5250 to the SL crew cab.
On all three pickups, the Midnight Edition will be offered in only three colors (black, gray, or white) and will reach Nissan dealerships later this year. Don’t worry, the total blackout on pricing won’t last long.
